Hello:
My name is Jarvis Googoo and I am originally from We’koqma’q First Nation. I am the Director of the Atlantic Indigenous Economic Development Integrated Research Program (AIEDIRP) with the Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs Secretariat (APC). AIEDIRP’s main purpose is to work with Indigenous communities to improve the knowledge base concerning Atlantic Indigenous economic development in order to improve the lives of Indigenous people in the region.
One of ways we are currently doing this is via promotion of Atlantic Indigenous Tourism. In 2022-2023, AIEDIRP commissioned a study (undertaken by BDO Canada) to study Indigenous tourism in our region. This study was finalized on July 31. We held a publicly/promotional media event for it on October 25 at the Millbrook Cultural and Heritage Centre. We hosted another one on January 23 at the Elsipogtog Mi’kmaq Cultural Centre.
On Friday, March 8, we will be hosting a presentation on the Atlantic Indigenous Tourism study at the Metepenagiag Heritage Park. This will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a session for questions, comments, feedback, and shared ideas. Afterwards, a lunch will be provided.
To help us with registration and catering numbers, please let Lois Daye (AIEDIRP Admin Assistant) know if you will be attending at: lois.daye@apcfnc.ca
